Ingredients

  • 2 c. white flour
  • 1 c. dark flour (rye or whole wheat)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Combine all dry ingredients. Work in fat. Add buttermilk to make a soft dough. Knead on floured board.

    Pat out to desired size. Bake in greased 12-inch round pan at 400° for 30 minutes. Prick dough with work before baking.
