  • 1 c. plus 1 Tbsp. vegetable shortening and margarine (1/2 of each)
  • 2 c. granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. nuts (walnuts or pecans), broken
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Cream shortening and margarine combination with granulated sugar; add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.

    Mix together the flour, cocoa and salt; add to the creamed mixture and blend well.

    Add the vanilla; blend and add nuts, blending slightly.

    Pour into a greased and floured 8 x 8-inch pan.

    Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.

    Cool completely before cutting.
