- 2 lb. cooking apples
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 10 to 12 slices stale bread
- 2 1/2 c. apple juice
- 3 Tbsp. raisins
- confectioners sugar
Directions

1Peel and core apples and cut into slices. Sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent discoloration.

2Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Toast the bread slices in a moderate oven at 350°

3for 10 to 12 minutes until they are lightly browned and very dry.

4Rub through a coarse strainer or grind in a blender.

5Add enough apple juice to the crumbs to moisten them thoroughly.

6Put half of the bread mixture in a greased baking dish.

7Spoon over the apple slices and sprinkle with raisins.

8Cover with the remaining bread mixture. Bake at 375°

9for 45 minutes.

10Sprinkle with confectioners sugar and serve warm with cream.
