- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. shortening, softened
- 1 1/2 c. very warm water
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 4 c. flour, sifted
Directions

1Sprinkle yeast into 1/2 cup water and stir until dissolved. Dissolve sugar and salt in 1 cup water.

2Add shortening and yeast mixture; mix well.

3Add flour and mix.

4Work through dough with spoon 5 times at 10 minute intervals.

5Turn dough onto lightly floured board and divide in half.

6Shape into 2 balls and let rest for 10 minutes.

7Roll into 12 x 9-inch rectangle.

8Place on baking sheet.

9Score with 6 diagonal marks.

10Cover with towel to raise 1 1/2 hours.

11Bake at 450° for 30 to 35 minutes.
