  • 5 lb. flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. salt
  • 1/4 lb. shortening
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 2 1/2 c. water (more or less)

Directions

    Mix flour, sugar, salt and shortening together; add yeast and water.

    Mix until smooth.

    Put in nine 1 pound loaves; let rise about 1 hour.

    Roll out dough to form long loaves.

    Put in loaf pans; let set for 1 1/2 hours.

    Punch down; let rise again.

    Bake in preheated 400° oven about 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

    Yield: 9 loaves.
