Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 c. very warm water
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- flour to make stiff dough
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and let stand 10 minutes. Add to very warm water the shortening, sugar and salt.

2Add enough flour to make stiff dough.

3Let stand 10 minutes, then work down 5 times 5 minutes apart.

4Divide dough into 2 parts.

5Roll each out flat and then roll like jelly roll.

6Cut diagonally 4 or 5 times across top.

7Put in French bread pan or on a cookie sheet and let stand to raise 1 1/2 hours.

8Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until light brown.
