French Onion Soup

  • 4 to 5 medium onions
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. flour
  • 3 (10 1/2 oz.) cans condensed beef broth
  • 2 soup cans water
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

    In large saucepan, slowly cook onions, peeled and thin, in butter until soft and golden.

    Sprinkle onions with flour.

    Cook and stir for 1 to 2 minutes.

    Stir in condensed beef broth, water and Worcestershire sauce.

    Add salt and pepper.

    Bring to boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 30 minutes.

    Toast slices of French bread 1-inch thick.

    When soup is done, stir in Parmesan cheese. Ladle soup into individual ovenproof bowls.

    Float bread on top of soup.

    Place cheese on bread.

    Bake in 400° oven for 5 minutes until cheese melts.
