  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup pecans broken
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 cup apples, granny smith ground or grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour, all-purpose sifted
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

    Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and apples.

    Sift dry ingredients together.

    Mix with sugar mixture; add pecans.
