Fried Green Tomatoes

  • 4 firm green tomatoes
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 c. dry bread crumb (sometimes I use flour)
  • 1/3 c. butter
  • salt and pepper

Directions

    Cut tomatoes in 3/4-inch slices.

    Dip into egg, then into bread crumbs or flour to coat, then carefully into egg mixture and into bread crumbs again.

    Melt butter in frying pan.

    Add tomato slices and cook slowly, until brown on both sides and until tomato is tender.

    Season to taste with salt and pepper.
