Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs (save egg white of 1 egg to be used later)
  • 2 sq. (1 oz. each) unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 3 Tbsp. rum flavoring
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.

    Beat in chocolate.

    Add sifted dry ingredients in thirds, alternately with the milk and flavoring, beating until smooth after each addition. Stir in nuts.

    Using 2 buttered jelly roll pans, spoon batter in 4 rows, the length of the pans (2 rows in each pan).

    Arrange batter together in nice even strips, about 2-inches wide.

    Beat egg white with fork and brush some over each row, being careful not to spill over onto pan.

    Sprinkle some sugar lightly over top.

    Bake in 375° oven for 20 minutes.

    Frost if you wish.

    Cut in diagonal slices.
