Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3 sticks butter or margarine
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk (1/2 c. evaporated milk plus 1 tsp. vinegar, stirred until thick)
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten

Directions

    Sift together sugar and flour.

    In saucepan, place butter or margarine, cocoa and water.

    Bring to rapid boil.

    Pour over flour and sugar mixture and mix well.

    Add buttermilk, soda, vanilla and slightly beaten eggs.

    Mix well; pour into greased pan (16 x 11-inch) or 2 small pans.

    Bake for 25 minutes at 350°.

    (Batter will be thin.)

    Start Fudge Icing 5 minutes before cake is done.
