Ingredients

  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 Tbsp. oleomargarine
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. quick oats
  • 1/4 c. chopped walnuts

    Melt first 4 ingredients over hot water in double boiler. Remove from heat.

    Add vanilla.

    Set aside to cool.

    Blend margarine, brown sugar, egg and vanilla, beating until light. Sift flour, soda and salt together, then add to first mix of margarine, sugar, egg and vanilla.

    Stir in oats.

    Press 2/3 of mixture into a 9 x 9 or 7 x 11 pan that's been greased and floured.

    Spread chocolate mixture over batter, then top with remaining batter by crumbles or bits over chocolate (use fingers and pat down a little).

    Sprinkle with nuts and press into top. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Cool; cut into bars.
