- 3 lb. head red cabbage, shredded fine
- 3 strips bacon, diced (optional)
- 2 chicken bouillon cubes
- 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 c. cider vinegar
- 1/4 c. margarine
- 1 small onion, chopped fine
- dash of clove
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 medium apples, chopped
Directions

1In large kettle, combine all ingredients.

2Bring to boiling over moderate heat, stirring occasionally.

3Reduce heat; simmer, covered and stirring occasionally, 1 to 1 1/4 hours or until most of the liquid is absorbed and cabbage is tender.

4Thicken at end with a bit of flour sprinkled over the cabbage and stirred in.
