- 2 1/2 lb. red cabbage, shredded
- 2 very large tart apples, cored and quartered
- 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1/2 c. lard or margarine
- 3 whole bay leaves
- 1/4 tsp. black peppercorns
- 1/4 tsp. whole cloves
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Directions

1Simmer vinegar, water, lard and spices for about 10 minutes. Add cabbage and apples.

2Cover.

3Cook over low heat for about one hour.

4Serve.

5Leftovers can be frozen.
