  • 2 1/2 lb. red cabbage, shredded
  • 2 very large tart apples, cored and quartered
  • 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. lard or margarine
  • 3 whole bay leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. black peppercorns
  • 1/4 tsp. whole cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Directions

    Simmer vinegar, water, lard and spices for about 10 minutes. Add cabbage and apples.

    Cook over low heat for about one hour.

    Serve.

    Leftovers can be frozen.
