- 1 head red cabbage, sliced thin
- 1 onion, minced
- 1/4 peeled red apple, sliced thin
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. Crisco
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 c. vinegar
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
Directions

1Melt Crisco in large pot.

2Take off heat and add the ingredients.

3Put back on stove and simmer until cabbage turns a blue color (1 hour), uncovered.

4After cabbage turns, add hot water to cover cabbage.

5Cook for 3 more hours on low heat, covered.

6Test for taste.

7Add sugar, salt or vinegar as needed. Never put vinegar directly on top of cabbage.

8Put on side, then mix.
