  • 1 cup shortening (lard and butter mixture)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (disolved in the boiling water below)
  • 1 tablespoon boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 pinch salt

    Preheat oven to 350.

    Cream together the shortening and sugar.

    Beat in the eggs.

    Add the molasses and baking soda water.

    Sift together the flour and ginger.
