- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 2 tsp. ginger
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 Tbsp. boiling water
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 3/4 c. flour
Directions

1In a saucepan, combine sugar, shortening, molasses and ginger. Boil 1 minute.

2Remove from heat.

3Add baking soda dissolved in boiling water.

4Stir until foamy, then add well beaten egg.

5Sift cinnamon, salt and flour together.

6Add to molasses mixture.

7Mix well. Divide dough.

8Roll on floured board to 1/4-inch thick.

9Cut into desired shapes.

10Bake on greased sheet at 375° for 15 to 20 minutes.
