- 1 c. brown sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 3 tsp. freshly peeled and finely grated ginger root
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- granulated sugar
Directions

1Cream together sugar and shortening.

2Add egg and molasses; beat well.

3Combine dry ingredients and add to creamed ingredients.

4Mix well.

5Chill dough, then shape into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.

6Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.

7Bake in 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.

8Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
