- 1/3 c. soft shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 small egg
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1/2 c. water
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, molasses and water thoroughly. Sift dry ingredients together and stir in.

2Chill dough.

3Heat oven to 400° (moderate heat).

4Drop dough by teaspoons about 2 inches apart onto a lightly greased baking sheet.

5Cookies will spread slightly during baking.

6Bake about 8 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly.

7Makes about 4 dozen 2-inch cookies.
