- 14 cup shortening, softened
- 12 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 12 cup molasses
- 2 cups flour
- 12 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 12 teaspoon nutmeg
- 12 teaspoon ground cloves
- 12 teaspoon cinnamon
- 12 cup hot water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Directions

1Beat shortning and sugar until smooth.

2Beat in egg and molasses well.

3Mix hot water and soda.

4Sift dry ingredients together.

5Add to creamed mixture alternately with soda water.

6Chill for 2 hours.

7Drop by tsp 2 inches apart on greased sheet.

8Bake at 375* for about 8 minutes, until lightly browned.
