Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 small egg
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1/2 c. hot water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

    Mix first four ingredients together thoroughly.

    Stir in soda dissolved in hot water.

    Mix together flour, salt, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon.

    Add to first mixture, mixing thoroughly. Chill dough.

    Drop by teaspoon 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.

    Bake in 400° oven 7 to 8 minutes.

    Ice while still warm.
