- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour sifted
- 3/4 teaspoon soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Directions

1Cream together shortening and sugar Beat in egg Then molasses Sift together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves Stir into molasses mixture.

2Gradually add 1/2 cup hot water, beating until smooth.

3Fill greased muffin pans 2/3 full.

4Bake in moderate oven at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
