  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour sifted
  • 3/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

    Cream together shortening and sugar Beat in egg Then molasses Sift together flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves Stir into molasses mixture.

    Gradually add 1/2 cup hot water, beating until smooth.

    Fill greased muffin pans 2/3 full.

    Bake in moderate oven at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
