  • 3/4 cups Shortening
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg, Beaten
  • 1/4 cups Dark Molasses
  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, Ground
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, Ground
  • 1/4 teaspoons Cloves, Ground
  • Coarse Decorator Sugar

Directions

    Cream the shortening; add sugar. Add the egg & molasses.

    Sift the remaining dry ingredients (except the decorator sugar) together. Add dry ingredients to the molasses mixture. Mix until well blended.

    Chill dough 8 hours.

    Form into about 1-inch balls and roll in coarse sugar. Place about 2 inches apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    Bake at 350°F for about 8 minutes for chewy cookies, 10 minutes for crispy cookies.
