  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. ginger
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    Pour boiling water over shortening. Add sugar, molasses and egg, then beat well.

    Add sifted dry ingredients and beat until smooth.

    Pour in ungreased 8 x 8-inch pan and bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350°.
