  • 1/2 c. butter and lard mixed
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. hot water

    Add egg and molasses

    and beat well.

    Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, ginger, clove

    Add to first mixture.

    Add hot water and beat until smooth.

    The batter is soft but it makes a fine cake. Bake in greased shallow pan 35 minutes at 325°.
