- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 egg
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2In a bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, baking powder and baking soda.

3Add shortening, molasses, egg and water.

4Beat with an electric mixer on low to medium speed until combined.

5Beat on high speed for 2 minutes. Pour into a greased and floured 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan.

6Bake in a 350° oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

7Cool on wire rack in the pan 10 minutes.

8Remove from pan and serve warm.
