- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 egg
- 1 c. molasses
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. hot water
Directions

1Cream the sugar and butter.

2Add beaten egg and molasses, then the dry ingredients. Add boiling water last.

3Beat until smooth. Bake in a greased shallow pan at 350° for 35 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly.

4Very good when served warm with whipped cream.
