Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. hot water

Directions

    Cream the sugar and butter.

    Add beaten egg and molasses, then the dry ingredients. Add boiling water last.

    Beat until smooth. Bake in a greased shallow pan at 350° for 35 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly.

    Very good when served warm with whipped cream.
