  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. hot water (add last)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening

    Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and molasses.

    Then add dry ingredients.

    Add hot water last.

    Beat until smooth.

    Batter is thin, but makes a nice cake.

    Bake in greased 12 x 9-inch cake pan at 350° for 35 minutes or little longer. This cake is very good with brown sugar icing.
