- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. ginger
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1Pour boiling water over shortening and sugar.

2Add molasses and egg.

3Beat well.

4Add dry ingredients.

5Beat until smooth. Pour into greased and floured 8 x 8-inch pan.

6Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 350°.

7Serve plain or top with whipped cream.
