- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/3 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 c. water (boiling)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. light molasses
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375°.

2Mix together the first 5 ingredients. Set aside.

3Beat shortening and sugar until creamy.

4Add egg and molasses.

5Beat well.

6Add dry ingredients to shortening mixture, alternating with boiling water.

7Beat after each addition.

8Pour batter into pan.

9Bake 35 to 40 minutes.

10Serve warm.

11Makes 9 servings.
