  • 1/2 c. shortening (partly bacon drippings)
  • 1 c. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 c. molasses (preferably sorghum)
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. cloves

Directions

    Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, molasses and sour milk.

    Add soda and spices to flour and add to first mixture.

    Pour into two (7 x 11-inch) pans.

    Bake at 325° for 40 minutes.
