- 2 c. buttermilk baking mix
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 3/4 c. hot water
- 2/3 c. dark molasses
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
Directions

1Beat all ingredients in a large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, for 30 seconds.

2Beat on medium speed for 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.

3Pour into greased and floured 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

4Bake at 325° for 50 minutes.

5Serve with whipped cream or applesauce, if desired.

6May be frozen up to 6 months.
