- 1/4 c. butter, softened
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1 3/4 c. plain flour
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar.

2Beat in egg and molasses.

3Dissolve soda in buttermilk.

4Sift flour, salt, cloves, ginger and cinnamon together.

5Add buttermilk and flour mixture alternately to creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.

6Stir in vanilla.

7Pour into greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

8Bake at 350° until tests done.
