  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 1 tsp. soda

Directions

    Cream shortening; add sugar and cream again. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in the molasses. Add dry ingredients alternately with hot water in which soda has been dissolved. Bake at 350° in a 9 x 12 pan. Remove from pan. Cool. Cut in squares. Serve with whipped cream.
