  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar (white sugar will do)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. light molasses
  • 1 heaping tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. boiling water

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, then molasses. Mix well. Add dry ingredients which have been sifted together; mix in. Last, add the boiling water, very slowly, stirring constantly. Bake in a shallow greased pan for 35 to 40 minutes at 350°.
