- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour or cake flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 c. dark molasses
- 3/4 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- sweetened whipped cream or applesauce
Directions

1Heat oven to 325°.

2Grease and flour a baking pan 9 x 9 x 2-inches.

3Mix all ingredients except whipped cream or applesauce in a large mixer bowl.

4Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping the bowl constantly.

5Beat 3 minutes on medium speed scraping occasionally.

6Pour into the pan.

7Bake 50 minutes.

8Serve warm with whipped cream or applesauce.
