  • 125 g unsalted butter
  • 100 g molasses
  • 4 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 325 g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 3 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • supercook writing icing (optional)

    Melt the sugar, butter and golden syrup in a saucepan.

    Sieve all the dry ingredients together, then add your vanilla essence.

    Slowly add the melted sugar, butter and syrup, then stir with a wooden spoon.

    Knead the mix for 3-4 minutes.

    Roll out the dough to about 5-7mm thickness, then use your choice of cutter to cut 'em out.

    Place them in the oven on baking trays lined with greaseproof paper for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
