Directions

1Sift all dry ingredients into a large bowl, cut in shortening with a pastry blender or fork as for pastry.

3When ready to use spoon 2 7/8 cups of mix into a bowl, (spoon lightly).

4In another bowl, mix 1 beaten egg, 3/4 cup molasses, and 3/4 cup boiling water.

5Stir wet ingredients into dry, beat until smooth.

6Bake in greased 9-inch square pan for 35 minutes at 325F
