Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar

    Heat oven to 375°.

    Grease a 15 x 10-inch jelly roll pan.

    In large saucepan, melt shortening.

    Cool 5 minutes.

    Add remaining ingredients, except 2 tablespoons sugar; mix well.

    Press in bottom of prepared pan.

    Sprinkle with remaining sugar.

    Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
