- 3/4 c. shortening
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
Directions

1Heat oven to 375°.

2Grease a 15 x 10-inch jelly roll pan.

3In large saucepan, melt shortening.

4Cool 5 minutes.

5Add remaining ingredients, except 2 tablespoons sugar; mix well.

6Press in bottom of prepared pan.

7Sprinkle with remaining sugar.

8Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.

9Do not overbake.

10Let stand 5 minutes.

11Cut into bars.

12Cool completely.

13Makes 48 bars.
