  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 scant tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar together; work in egg and molasses. Sift dry ingredients together and add to sugar mixture.

    Roll dough into walnut-sized balls.

    Dip one side in sugar.

    Place sugar side up on wax paper lined cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake at 325° for 12 minutes.

    Do not overbake.
