- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 scant tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar together; work in egg and molasses. Sift dry ingredients together and add to sugar mixture.

2Roll dough into walnut-sized balls.

3Dip one side in sugar.

4Place sugar side up on wax paper lined cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake at 325° for 12 minutes.

5Do not overbake.
