- 3/4 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 3/4 c. molasses
- 3 c. sifted flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar.

2Add egg and molasses.

3Beat well. Add flour sifted with salt, soda, and spices.

4Mix well.

5Chill in refrigerator.

6This dough is soft, and must be thoroughly chilled to shape (overnight works well).

7Form into small balls.

8Roll in sugar.

9Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.

10Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 10 minutes.
