  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • pinch of salt

Directions

    Cream shortening; add sugar and beat again.

    Add egg, molasses and beat.

    Add remaining ingredients which have been sifted together.

    (I put dough in refrigerator until it's firm and use a glass to press down before baking.)

    Roll dough into balls size of small walnuts.

    Roll in sugar and bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350° for about 15 minutes.
