  • 3/4 c. shortening or margarine
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. ground ginger
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Cream the shortening or margarine and sugar. Add the egg and molasses and mix well. Combine the flour, ground ginger, soda, cinnamon and salt.

    Mix well.

    Add about 1/4 dry mixture to the creamed mixture at a time and mix well after each addition.

    Roll into 1-inch balls and roll in sugar.

    Place well apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350° for 12 minutes. Tops will crack.

    Makes 4 or 5 dozen cookies.
