  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. molasses

    Sift dry ingredients.

    Combine shortening and sugar. Add egg, slightly beaten, in thirds to mixture. Blend in molasses. Add dry ingredients.

    Roll into 1-inch balls. Dip top in sugar.

    Place 3-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 7 or 8 minutes or until firm or lightly browned.
