- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
Directions

1Sift dry ingredients.

2Combine shortening and sugar. Add egg, slightly beaten, in thirds to mixture. Blend in molasses. Add dry ingredients.

3Roll into 1-inch balls. Dip top in sugar.

4Place 3-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 7 or 8 minutes or until firm or lightly browned.
