Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. shortening (butter is best)
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. each cinnamon, cloves and ginger

Directions

    Drop by teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheets.

    Flatten each cookie with a small glass dipped into sugar; place 2 inches apart. Bake at 350° for about 12 minutes.

    Let cool a few minutes before removing.

    Makes 4 dozen.
