- 1/2 c. yellow cornmeal (white is also delicious)
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. milk
- 2/3 c. sifted flour
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening
Directions

1Combine cornmeal and milk and let stand 10 minutes.

2Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.

3Cut shortening into flour mixture until it resembles fine crumbs.

4Add cornmeal and milk mixture and blend until all ingredients are moistened. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet.

5Bake at 425° for 10 minutes.

6Makes 16 to 18 biscuits.
