Ingredients

  • 1 lb. beef, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 4 c. hot water
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • pinch of allspice
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 6 carrots, quartered
  • 8 small onions
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cut in eighths

Directions

    Brown meat in 1 to 2 tablespoons fat in large pot.

    Add remaining ingredients, except vegetables.

    Simmer for 1 hour and 45 minutes, adding water if necessary.

    Add carrots, onions and potatoes.

    Cook additional 30 minutes until vegetables are tender. Thicken liquid if desired for gravy.
