- 1 qt. warm water
- 1/2 c. brown sugar or molasses
- 1/4 c. hop yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- unbolted flour
Directions

1Thicken water with flour to a thin batter.

2Add sugar, salt and yeast and stir in more flour until quite stiff.

3In the morning, add a small teaspoon soda and flour enough to make the batter stiff as can be stirred with a spoon.

4Put into pans and let rise again, then bake in even oven, not too hot at first (keep warm while rising).

5Smooth over the loaves with a spoon or knife dipped in water.
