Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. baking molasses
  • 3 1/2 c. graham flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 c. milk (scalded)
  • 3 c. white flour

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in warm water.

    Thoroughly blend shortening, sugar, salt, molasses, milk and graham flour; cool.

    Stir in egg and yeast; add white flour to make a stiff dough.

    Let rise 1 hour or until doubled.

    Knead well on a lightly floured surface.

    Place in a greased bowl; turn to grease top.

    Let rise until doubled. Shape into loaves; place in well-greased loaf pans.

    Let rise until doubled.

    Bake at 350° for 1 hour.

    Remove from pans and cool.
