  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. sorghum (1/3 c. molasses and 2/3 c. Karo)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. boiling water

    Cream sugar and shortening.

    Add eggs and sorghum and beat. Sift together dry ingredients.

    Add dry ingredients alternately with water to creamed mixture.

    Beat.

    Pour into a 9 x 13-inch pan and bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
